The Amazing Heron's Village You Must Visit

When you visit Ubud to find some unique places, you must come and explore Petulu Village. The heron’s village or Kokokan Village are the name of Petulu Village because in there you will find a thousand of herons. This village located in north west of Ubud District or 1, 5 hours from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. 
The herons has been nested since 1965 and initially only 5 herons. Every month, the populations of herons grow faster and they breed in there. At first, they are immigration from the other place and come to this village and stay in there. The local people disturbed with this condition, they catch and the heron. But after catching the heron, the local people felt not comfortable, because they are visited by big scary ghost in their dream or the reality. So, the local people ask to Pendanda (Balinese Clergyman) and conduct a ritual. When the ritual is beginning, the clergyman is trance and told if the heron is rancang (guard) of God who worshiped in Desa Temple (temple set up in village). The herons are as the niskala guard (invisible guard) and protect the village from pest in the rice field. After people making a monument in the Desa Temple as offerings to heron, the village become prosperous, the harvest is abundant and there is no pests threaten until today. 

The Petulu’s heron has white color and brown in back and face. They live on the trees which along of road till in front of Desa Temple. You will find them in sasih kelima until sasih kesanga (Balinese mouth) or October-March. The herons will nest and keep their children on that period. On April-September, you also find them, but the population less than October-March. I suggest you to visit this unique place at 5 pm, because they come back from finding food. Don’t forget to wear hat, to cover your head from the heron’s feces. If you are lucky, you will see 2 black herons. According the local people they are the leader of thousand of herons.

2. Green Bowl/ Bali Cliff Beach

If you need quite beach in Bali, you must visit Green Bowl Beach. It located in Ungasan and it is near from Pandawa Beach. The name of Green Bowl was taken from the corals that are grown by sea grass. It’s looked like Green Bowl when the sea was receding. Local people usually call this beach with Bali Cliff Beach because on the top of this beach you can find hotel. The name of that hotel is Bali Cliff Hotel. Some time Green Bowl is called by Hidden Beach from Ungasan. You can enjoy white clean sand, amazing cliff and also romantic sunset.

3. Uug Beach (Broken Beach)

Pasih Uug (Broken Beach) is a unique beach located at Bunga Mekar Village, western part of Nusa Penida Island. The name of Pasih Uug (Broken Beach) not means it is broken. Although called like that, this beach can be a favorite spot to see how beauty this Island of Paradise. It is a unique beach that you can’t find in other places, there are beautiful cliffs, sunset view and if you are lucky, you can discover many stingrays and sea turtles from this beach.

4. Pengerangoan / Yeh leh Beach 

Pengeragoan Beach is not famous like Kuta, Jimbaran, or Lovina Beach, but it is has beautiful panorama and uniques view. This Beach has black sand with big wave and surrounding by many trees and the best place to refresh your mind. 5. Padang-Padang Beach 

Padang-Padang Beach located at Ungasan Village, or about 30 minutes from I Gusti Ngurah Rai. This beach has white sand and beautiful cliff. You will pass a small cave from cliff and after passing the cave you will see blue sea and amazing panorama. Beside of that, Padang-Padang Beach also offer awesome sunset. 

6. Berawa Beach

This beach located at Canggu Village and if you want to go to this beach, it take 1 hour from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.  Berawa beach is the best place for surfing because has big wave and enjoying black sand beach. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset with your couple.
