Merapi Volcano Museum - Volcano Tourism and Educates

Indonesia has many active volcanoes, then Indonesia located in disaster-prone areas. One of tragedy that occurred in Indonesia is eruption of Merapi Mount in 1969, 1994 and 2006. To commemorate this tragedy, the government of Indonesia built a museum, this museum called Merapi Volcano Museum. 

Merapi Volcano Museum is located in the southern slope of Merapi Mount exactly in Boyong street, Hargobinangun, Sleman regency, Yogyakarta. The museum has a slogan of 'Merapi Jendela Bumi' (Merapi is the window of earth) is about 22 kilometers from Adisutjipto International Airport.

Merapi Volcano Museum has a land area of 3,4 acres and a building area of 4.470 square meters consisting of 2 floors. The first floor contains museum collection placed in several rooms with different themes. The themes is volcano world, on the merapi volcano trail, humans and volcano, earthquake and tsunami, landslide, diorama and others themes. The second floor functions as a theater showing movies about volcano. 

The contructions of museum reflecting characteristic of Yogyakarta city, such as the main entrance is representating of temple, the tpo of building like a Tugu Yogyakarta, overall building like a Merapi mount and the concept of built like a Keraton Yogyakarta. In the museum, visitors can know to chronology of Merapi mount's eruptions, photo documentation, visual aids about volcano phenomenon are completly displayed with billingual explanation, Indonesia and English language and Merapi mount zone. So, Merapi Volcano Museum has function as a center of information, research, education and volcano tourism for visitors add insight to the volcano. If the weather is nice, visitors can see the elegant peak of Merapi mount and shady trees scenery behind the musem.

The visitors who visit Merapi Volcano Musem must pay a entrance fee about Rp 3000. In addition, the parking charge is Rp 1.500 for motorcycle, Rp 2.000 for car and Rp 10.000 for bus. This museum opened from Tuesday until Sunday (Monday is closed) from 09.00-15.30.

Kembangarum's Tourist Village, Village With The Concept of Education
