Gudeg, A Traditional Culinary Yogyakarta


Leave Yogyakarta without bringing a gift feels less complete, one of good culinary for a gift is Gudeg






Each regions would have a special culinary, as well as Yogyakarta which has Gudeg. Gudeg is a traditional culinary Yogyakarta. This culinary made with the main ingredients is gori (young jack fruit) mixed with coconut milk and cooked about 24 hours. Gudeg has a sweet taste and savory, for dish Gudeg usually coupled with krecek condiment (cow skin), egg, chicken, tofu and tempe.

There are 3 types of Gudeg namely Gudeg basah, Gudeg kering and Gudeg manggar. Gudeg basah (wet Gudeg) is served with yummy coconut milk gravy. This food is very good for breakfast. Gudeg kering (dry Gudeg) is cooked longer than Gudeg basah until the gravy dry and the color turn into brown. This Gudeg will not stale for 24 hours or more if it is stored in a generator. The last, Gudeg manggar. Gudeg manggar has main ingredients is coconut flowers. This culinary is hardly found because coconut flowers as the main ingredients has limited stocks.

Really, this culinary is good of choice for tasted when visit Yogyakarta. Gudeg has become daily food by Yogyakarta people and to get it is easy, Gudeg can be found in every place in Yogyakarta, but Wijilan and Barek are famous area as Gudeg center.

Parangtritis Sand Dune, Indonesian-Style Desert

Who think Indonesia has a desert like Africa with Sahara desert ? Strange but true. This natural phenomenon does exist in Indonesia, exactly in Yogyakarta city. Unique, this desert is formed in Indonesia, which has a tropical climate with high rainfall. The uniqueness is named Parangtritis Sand Dune.

Entering this sand dune area, visitors will be welcome by the hissing of the soft sand blown by the wind. The harder the wind blows, the more sand particles are blown away. The hissing combines with the splashing wave of the south sea results in a harmonic tone. Not far from this place, there is a museum, namely Geospatial Museum. This museum serves as an educational attraction for add to visitors information about Parangtritis Sand Dune's geospatial condition. As well as a desert, Parangtritis Sand Dune has an extremely drastic temperature changes, hot sun like burning body and expanse of sand that the stretches wide. All of it, makes the imagination of visitors like being in the Sahara desert.

Because of its uniqueness dazzling, many photographers take photos here for photo sessions and many couples make this sand dune into the background of pre-wedding photos. Not only that, Parangtritis Sand Dune also used as a place for film-making and video clips.

As a rare natural phenomenon and the only one in Indonesia, even the Southeast Asia. This place become a famous tourist destination. Parangtritis Sand Dune has an easy to find location. Borobudur Temple, An Architectural Masterpiece of The Past

Borobudur temple is a great masterpiece of 9th century which become the large stupa complex in the world that is recognizes by UNESCO and center of wardship for Buddhist in the Indonesia




History
The founder of this temple is Samaratungga, king of the Syailendra dynasty. Borobudur temple built around the 9th century by the architect named Gunadharma. Borobudur temple is not used for a long centuries because it is covered bushes and volcanic ash of Merapi mount. At 1814, when the arrival of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles to Indonesia. He heard about the discovery of giants objects, so he ordered subordinates, Cornelius, to cleaned its area. Next, the Borobudur's name in this temple is given by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles with meaning 'biara di perbukitan' (monastery in the hills) which derived from the word 'bara' (monastery) and 'beduhur' (hills).



Feature
Borobudur temple is the second largest of temple in the world after Angkor Wat in Cambodia. This temple is not only large, the walls of the temple was filled with 2672 reliefs. This reliefs tells about the live of Buddha and their teachings which divided into 4 main story, such as karmawibangga, lalita wistara, jataka and awadana, and gandawyuda. To follow the storyline, visitors had to walk clockwise arround the temple. Enjoy the splendor of the temple is not enough to walk arround this temple area, because visitors can also see Borobudur Sunrise and Borobudur sunset from the top of temple. The natural scenery arround Borobudur temple is not less amazing, a row of Menoreh hills, Sindoro mount, Sumbing mount, Merapi mount and Merbabu mount as if a guard that guarded this temple. 
For visitors who want to buy souvenirs, near temple existing shops selling souvenirs such as ornate statue, replica of Borobudur temple, batik bags, T-shirt, neklaces, bracelets and others.

Taman Sari - Water Castle Yogyakarta

The sound of gurgling water, the beauty of its ancient architecture and the wonderful view make Taman Sari Yogyakarta become a amazing tourist attraction.



Taman Sari Yogyakarta is the bailey of Yogyakarta palace awarded by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I to his wives as respect for their devotion. As bailey, of course distance between Taman Sari with Yogyakarta palace is not too far. Sikidang Crater - The Jumping Volcanic Crater

Dieng Plateau is a active volcano area and save a million natural beauty. One of the famous is Sikidang crater. Sikidang Crater is a tourist attraction which located in Dieng Wetan, Kejajar, Wonosobo regency, Central Java. From Yogyakarta to Dieng Plateau will take approximately 2,5 hours.


Barren stretch of land surrounded by hills with ponds continue to smoke will greet visitors upon arrival in Sikidang crater. Sikidang crater is ex-volcanic eruption that formed the crater and still active today but this place is safe for visit because of the low sulfur level. Ramayana Ballet Prambanan - Indian Epic Story in Java's Art


Ramayana Ballet Prambanan is a art show that combines drama and dance that lifts the story from Indian namely Ramayana. Ramayana is a Indian legend made by Walmiki and beautiful carved on temple walls Ciwa in the Prambanan temple area. This art show held in Prambanan temple area exactly Yogyakarta-Solo street, Prambanan village, Yogyakarta.

The visitors will notice in the location is a majestic stage with a background of glowing Prambanan temple.On the corner stage, there are gamelan musicians with their instruments. Ramayana told about Rama who aided Hanoman, fight for his wife, Shinta, from Rahwana's abduction.

During the two hours show, visitors will be amused by an extraordinary performances that visitors will not feel bored or disappointed. All of story is wrapped in such a series of dance movement and steps preformed by hundreds of gorgeous dancers to the accompaniment of gamelan (Javanese traditional music). There is no dialog spoken by dancers, the storyline described by sinden voice used Javanese language. For visitors who not understand Javanese language, there are Indonesia and English narrations available for visitors.

Ramayana Ballet Prambanan is staged three time a week that is a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on 07.30pm until 09.30 pm. During May-October, the show will held in Ramayana open stage and during November-April will held in Trimurti closed stage, because this months is rainy seasons.
