Borobudur Temple, An Architectural Masterpiece of The Past

Borobudur temple is a great masterpiece of 9th century which become the large stupa complex in the world that is recognizes by UNESCO and center of wardship for Buddhist in the Indonesia




History
The founder of this temple is Samaratungga, king of the Syailendra dynasty. Borobudur temple built around the 9th century by the architect named Gunadharma. Borobudur temple is not used for a long centuries because it is covered bushes and volcanic ash of Merapi mount. At 1814, when the arrival of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles to Indonesia. He heard about the discovery of giants objects, so he ordered subordinates, Cornelius, to cleaned its area. Next, the Borobudur's name in this temple is given by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles with meaning 'biara di perbukitan' (monastery in the hills) which derived from the word 'bara' (monastery) and 'beduhur' (hills).



Feature
Borobudur temple is the second largest of temple in the world after Angkor Wat in Cambodia. This temple is not only large, the walls of the temple was filled with 2672 reliefs. This reliefs tells about the live of Buddha and their teachings which divided into 4 main story, such as karmawibangga, lalita wistara, jataka and awadana, and gandawyuda. To follow the storyline, visitors had to walk clockwise arround the temple. Enjoy the splendor of the temple is not enough to walk arround this temple area, because visitors can also see Borobudur Sunrise and Borobudur sunset from the top of temple. The natural scenery arround Borobudur temple is not less amazing, a row of Menoreh hills, Sindoro mount, Sumbing mount, Merapi mount and Merbabu mount as if a guard that guarded this temple. 
For visitors who want to buy souvenirs, near temple existing shops selling souvenirs such as ornate statue, replica of Borobudur temple, batik bags, T-shirt, neklaces, bracelets and others.

Location
Truly a beautiful and historical of tourist attraction. Borobudur temple is located in Magelang, Central of Java about 40 kilometers from Yogyakarta. This temple opened every day from 06.00 until 17.00.

Gunung Kawi Brings You to the Past

Gunung Kawi is an ancient Hindu Temple located in north east part of Ubud, precisely in Pakerisan River, Tampaksiring Village, Gianyar Regency. Approximately 40 minutes from Denpasar city.The temple was built around the 11th century with its archeological carvings and richness in history, the temple has been proposed by the Governor of Bali to be listed on the World Heritages Sites. Beautiful rice fields and rivers as the irrigation can also be seen near the temple area. To reach the temple area, visitors must walk about 600 meters from the parking area to the ticket counter after that, visitors must go down approximately 315 stone steps.

Gunung Kawi Temple has 2 ancient omission complex, they are the Temple Complex and Buddhist Temple Complex. In the Temple complex, there is an article of Kediri word "Haji Lumahing Jalu". Haji means king, Lumah means temple, Ing means pakerisan and Jalu means Keris literal, the entire word has a meaning "The king made a temple in Pakerisan". The article says that the temple is dedicated to Udayana King and anak Wungsu. There are several temples located in this complex. While the Buddhist Temple Complex is used as a residence and as a place for meditation.
 
The beautiful ancient carvings would make all visitors feel reborn to the past. Gunung kawi is one of the most popular historical tourist destination in Bali. Its ancient omission attracts many domestic and foreign tourist, Gunung kawi is a great place to visit when having a vacation to Bali.
