Batuan Temple a Classic Balinese Temple

Batuan Temple is a Balinese Hindu temple that is designed very beautiful with full of Balinese ornament. The temple is located in Batuan Village, Sukawati district, Gianyar Regency, about 15 kilometers south of Ubud. It approximately takes 30 minutes to reach this temple from Denpasar City. This village is known as a village of craftsmen, old legends and mysterious tales. Batuan Temple is a part of three major temples in the village called Tri Khayangan. As a Tri Khayangan Temples in Bali, there is a festival held every six months according to the Balinese Calender, on the festival, all Batuan villagers come to the temple and worship to the God.

Same as other temples in Bali, Batuan temple is also featured by three areas which includes Nista Mandala (outside area), Madya Mandala (middle area) and Utama Mandala (main temple). This beautiful temple is looked after by local residents of Batuan countryside. At the temple parking area, there is a Wantilan. Wantilan is a place used as a meeting hall and to practice various kinds of Balinese dances. Here, sarongs will be lend to visitors for free before entering the main temple, visitors must wear a sarong to show respect about the holiness of the temple. A donation box is also provided for foreign visitors to support the maintenance of the temple, the donation given to the donation box should be based on a sense of sincerity.

In the main yard of Batuan Temple, there are three story shrines called Meru and Bale Pengiyasan as a symbol of Besakih Temple, Padmasana is also found in the are a as a place to worship Ida Sang Hyang Widhi (God). Balinese ornaments that are beautifully carved on every building of the temple area are reflection of The Ramayana Epic story and every building has a different philosophy. Batuan Temple is a great tourist destination for visitors who wish to see a neat Balinese Hindu shrine with beautiful Balinese ornaments.
