Enjoying the Unique Museum of Big Doll "Ogoh - Ogoh"

 A day before Nyepi Day celebration, or well known with appellation Pengrupukan Day there is an attraction of parading Ogoh-ogoh held on the street in Bali. Ogoh-ogoh is a statue shaped like a giant made from bamboo and paper or other materials which paraded surround the village at the moment before the Nyepi Day celebration. After it’s been paraded, Ogoh-ogoh usually burned. But there some Ogoh-ogoh that not be burnt and displayed in the museum.

One of the museums which displayed Ogoh-ogoh created by Balinese children is Ogoh-ogoh museum. Located near Soka Beach, Tabanan, Bali exactly in Soka Indah Rest Area. There are approximately 16 kinds of Ogoh-ogoh that displayed here. This Ogoh-ogoh museum was initiated by Kooeswintoro, Head Director of Grafika Group which is a company that engaged in the education and tourism field. This museum was opened on May 2013. To access this Ogoh-ogoh museum is very easy because the location of the Ogoh-ogoh Museum is near Soka Beach that set on the edge of Denpasar's main road. It takes approximately 75 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport.


As we know after Ogoh-ogoh be paraded on the street, it is usually burned-out. But make Ogoh-ogoh actually need a big cost, even it reaches hundreds of million rupiahs. There are so many foreign tourists that willing to come to Bali only to see this Ogoh-ogoh. Because Ogoh-ogoh can be used as a really good tourist attraction then that is the reason this Ogoh-ogoh museum was made. In addition, the purpose of establishing this Ogoh-ogoh museum is to preserve art and culture values inherited from the ancestors in the past era.


Ogoh-ogoh museum consists of 20 huts size 6x6 and 6x4 meters with height around 3,5 meters. In each hut, there is 1 up to 2 Ogoh-ogoh that consist of certain meaning. For example, there is Ogoh-ogoh with Sinta Kidnapping Theme (Rama’s Wife) by Ravana that taken from Ramayana Puppet Story. From this museum, you can also watch the beautiful Soka Beach from the top, because the location of this museum is above Soka Beach. Besides you take a look at Ogoh-ogoh, you can also see Tabanan typical granary that becomes an icon of Tabanan Regency.

There are some facilities provided in Ogoh-ogoh Museum which are spacious parking areas, minimarket, restaurant, toilet, and seats overlooking the beach. So, if you are going on a holiday in Bali, do not forget to visit this Ogoh-ogoh museum at Soka Indah.
