Serangan Island | Bali Secret Place of Interest


Serangan is a small island located 10 kilometers south of Denpasar. Serangan island has a length of 2.9 kilometers and the width of 1 kilometer. It is only about 15 minutes to reach this island from Kuta and Sanur areas. This island is also called as "Turtle island" because this island is known as the nesting ground for green sea turtles. One of Bali's six sacred temples Pura Sakenan is also located in this small island. In the early 90's this island could only be reached by wooden boat, with reclamations, now this island can easily be accessed by a 110 meters bridge.The population is mostly involved in fishing industry, therefore many fishing boats can be found alongside the shore.

Serangan island is regarded as the most least visited location due to its very hot and humid atmosphere. But there are several unique features that makes this small island stand out. Citra Taman Penyu, a turtle breeding pen breeds sea turtles and hatching. This turtle education and conserving center is one of the tourist attraction in this island. Besides learning about turtle lives, visitors may participate in feeding times and regular turtle releases may also be participated by visitors. This island is also famous for water sports especially surfing and wind surfing. It is one of the best surfing spot in Bali especially during October to April the wave is good and ride able.

Pura Sakenan, one of the six sacred Temples in Bali is located in the western shore and is considered as the one of the Holiest temple in Bali. During big celebrations, various rare and sacred dances are performed in this Temple. Visitors must wear proper temple attire to enter this temple.
